Thing #18 Web Apps

Web Apps are a great idea. I can list many pros: independence of a particular computer, cost savings (or ability to use for those who can't afford to buy the software), collaboration, different versions being available, and project management.

Google Docs is good, but of what I saw, Zoho seems to have some more sophisticated tools available for free. The updating of the reference pages on OceanNet is an example of a project that I'm involved with that could profit from some of the features Zoho has to offer. The tasks and milestones feature would allow the 3 project members to determine priorities, set tasks and task lists and set them under milestones. We could even produce Gantt charts (heaven forfend) to check progress. Of course we could also use that time to actually work on the pages!

Anyway, I am really impressed with the features Zoho offers.

I do worry a little about privacy, especially for work-related documents. There could be a lot of competitive intelligence in hackerville...
